2024 Community Impact Grant Recipients

A Step Ahead Foundation Tri-Cities

A Step Ahead Foundation Tri-Cities works to remove barriers to Long-Acting, Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) and provide individuals a step ahead to maximize their potential in the Appalachian Highlands. A Step Ahead is a community partner through their collaboration with local schools, youth based nonprofits and ETSU Pediatrics to provide education and accessibility to LARC across our region.

Adult Day Services

Adult Day Services (ADS) provides personalized care for adults who are physically, socially, emotionally and mentally challenged, or frail due to advanced age. ADS helps older people maintain their independence by providing stimulating activities including daily exercise and craft projects.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness education in Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington counties in Tennessee.

Appalachia Service Project

ASP provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation — bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families.

Since 1969, we’ve made homes warmer, safer, and drier for families and provided transformational service experiences for volunteers. Each year, more than 15,000 volunteers serve with ASP, providing critical repairs for more than 350 families.

Appalachian Mountain Project Access

Project Access offers a way to break that cycle and help individuals and communities to be healthier. With a strong network of providers in place, strict program guidelines for patients, and a requirement that patients have a primary care provider, Project Access effectively lessens the negative impact of the uninsured in Northeast Tennessee.

Arm Assistance and Resource Ministries (ARM) Inc.

ARM, INC. is a 501 3(c) Non Profit Corporation that offers assistance to low income and homeless citizens of Carter County with Food, Clothing and limited household goods. We rely on support from individuals, business, organizations, grants and donations of items and or products, cash, food drives, sponsorship, tithes, gift cards, fundraisers, memorial, and other beneficiaries.

Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton / Carter County

The Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County has been a cornerstone of the community since opening it doors. Serving hundreds of youth each year, they provide a safe, structured and positive environment for young people after school, during holidays and summer vacation.

Boys and Girls Club of Johnson City / Washington County

The Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City / Washington County to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

Carter County Drug Prevention

CCDP focuses on seven evidence-based prevention strategies including; providing information, enhancing skills, providing support, enhancing access and reducing barriers, changing consequences, changing physical design, and modifying policies.

Change Is Possible (CHIPS)

CHIPS provides shelter and services to victims of domestic violence and their children that will enable them to begin and maintain a life free of violence.

Coalition For Kids

Coalition for Kids is on a mission to help children in need by providing a safe place with caring staff and volunteers. They offer a wide variety of activities specifically designed to instill confidence, foster leadership, strengthen character and cultivate a passion for knowing God and walking with Him!

Elizabethton Senior Center

The Elizabethton Senior Center works to provide nutritious meals to home bound and congregate clients 60 years of age & also handicapped individuals. Serving Seniors in the Carter County community since 1968!

Family Promise

The mission of Family Promise of Greater Johnson City (FPJC) is to help homeless and low income families achieve sustainable independence. They provide a network of faith congregations and community agencies to promote a collaborative response for homeless families with children.

Fit For Success

Our Fit For Success program was created to give our local schools the ability to provide clothing, footwear, and personal hygiene to students in need. Once a student’s basic needs are met, they’re able to be more attentive and engage in the classroom, which leads to a higher level of learning.

Frontier Health – Safe House

Safe House provides 28 beds in two distinct domestic violence shelters, located in undisclosed locations in Kingsport and Johnson City. Safe House provides safe confidential shelter to any victim of domestic violence as well as their depend children.

Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachia

The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians serves 46 counties from southwest Virginia, through east Tennessee, and into north Georgia. United Way of East TN Highlands is supporting Girl Scout troops across Washington, Carter and Johnson Counties of Northeast TN.

Johnson County Community Center

The Johnson County Community Center has educational programs through local agencies, and volunteers. They offer one on one tutoring, evening meal or snack all staff are CPR First Aid certified and have background checks.

Johnson County Senior Center

The Johnson County Senior Center serves Johnson County, TN. They are a multi-purpose center providing services for people age 60 and older. They help the senior community in any way they can including offering meals throughout the week, Silver Sneakers workout programs, and so many activities that it’s hard to list them all.

Jonesborough Senior Center – My Ride

MyRide is a volunteer senior transportation service providing transportation assistance for Senior Citizens age 60+.  Providing door-THROUGH-door transportation for doctor appointments, grocery shopping, beauty/barber shop appointments and other social gatherings.

Personal Support Services

Personal Support Services (PSS) exclusively provides homemaker services for the Department of Human Services’ Adult Protective Services (APS), aiding some of Tennessee’s most vulnerable adults. When APS refers cases of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation, PSS steps in with highly trained staff to offer in-home care, housework, errand running, financial oversight, and safety monitoring.

Rise: Healthy For Life

Rise HFL offers responsible, inclusive sexuality education in Northeast Tennessee. We work to change culture by educating and empowering youth as young as kindergarten through older adults. Truly comprehensive sex-ed (CSE) leads to healthier, more respectful relationships, self-confidence, and more responsible decision-making.

Scouting America – Sequoyah Council

Scouting America is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers.

Scouting America formerly known as Boy Scout of America was founded in 1910, and since then, more than 110 million Americans have been participants in Scouting America programs at some time.

The Scouting America is part of the international Scout Movement and became a founding member organization of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922.

Second Harvest Foodbank of Northeast TN

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee has led the effort to end hunger in Northeast Tennessee since 1986. An affiliate of the Feeding America Network of Food Banks, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee’s Second Harvest is the only food bank serving the eight county region incorporating Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties.

The Arc of Washington County

Chartered in 1961 and affiliated with the Arc Tennessee, Arc of Washington County is dedicated to promoting the growth of nurturing communities where all people have the opportunity to join in fellowship and valued contribution to family, friends, neighborhood, work, spiritual, and community life.

The Salvation Army of Johnson City

The Salvation Army of Johnson City strives to meet the needs of the community through sheltering, feeding, and providing supportive housing to those who need need it most.
