Strengthening Disaster Response: New Tools for Better Volunteer Coordination and Logistics

With a new mobile operations vehicle and off-grid technology, we are ensuring the next time disaster strikes, we’re ready to lead.

When Hurricane Helene struck with chaos and devastation, many hands were needed to help throughout our region. Immediate response after the storm saw the formation of resource centers, cleanup of homes, and clearing of debris.

With this great need we witnessed a great response. Volunteers from across the country poured in asking what they could do to help. We cataloged projects and aided in the logistics of response while also activating our emergency response fund to raise funds for community recovery.

This key work continues today, and we are excited to be more prepared for future needs by outfitting a vehicle to aid in volunteer coordination and operation logistics. Thanks to a grant from UPS, facilitated by National VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), you’ll see this upgraded vehicle throughout the region. With off-grid power for computers, satellite internet for communications, and a vibrant new look coming soon, we’ll be responding even more prepared to handle our community needs.

📸 We’ve already been using the vehicle in new ways, collecting donations from our friends at Mahoney’s and delivering chairs from our community impact project to flood survivors through long-term recovery groups.
