Johnson City, TN- United Way of East Tennessee Highlands is set to host their annual Campaign Kickoff on September 16, 2022, at the Johnson City Farmer’s Market Pavilion from 11:30am – 1:30pm.

“We’re excited for this year’s Campaign Kickoff. Last year we adjusted to provide more time for our local business leaders to connect with each other and that worked well, so we’re going to keep that flexible and open-flow style for this year’s event,” said Leslie Salling, President & CEO of United Way of East TN Highlands.

This year’s Campaign Kickoff will be an opportunity for businesses to bring their team out for some fun and relaxation. Lunch will be provided to those in attendance. This year’s event sponsors include First Horizon Bank, Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank, AT&T Call Center, Bank of Tennessee, Carter County Bank, and Herrin, McPeak & Associates.

The goal of this year’s campaign is one million dollars across three counties, Carter, Johnson and Washington. Thanks to campaign pacesetters, 27% of the goal is already completed. The theme is ‘Together We Can.”

“Welcome Home” Project

United Way of East TN Highlands is also hosting a “Welcome Home” project as a part of this year’s kickoff. The project will involve putting together baskets for families and/or individuals moving into a new home after experiencing homelessness or domestic violence. These baskets will be full of essential items that any of us need when moving into a new home but tend to add up quickly when starting out with very little (cooking utensils, laundry, cleaning items and more). Last year, nearly 200 families were in a transitional state from experiencing homelessness to finding a new home.

If you’d like to show your support for the project beyond your volunteer time, baskets can be sponsored for $50 each. United Way’s goal is to have 200 baskets sponsored so that support can be provided to 200 families or individuals who are so close to being back on their feet.
