Chris Rountree of Citi is set to begin a three-year term on the Board of Directors for United Way of East TN Highlands.

Chris has been with Citi for nearly 5 years after spending just under 20 years with AT&T, where he first began his volunteer work with United Way in the early 2000’s. Rountree’s volunteer efforts ranged from hands-on volunteer projects during United Way’s annual Week of Caring to leading the internal AT&T fundraising campaign.

When asked about his involvement with United Way, Chris said, “Being involved in United Way has shown me that I’m rewarded as much as I contribute. Personally, it’s been life-enriching. Professionally, it’s given me the opportunity to grow a diverse network of connections throughout our region.”

Rountree looks to continue developing his understanding of the ever-changing needs in our communities and the organizations that meet those needs. “The broad understanding of how our community and nonprofits work together gives us the opportunity to help people that we weren’t even originally aware that they needed help,” he says. United Way currently works with roughly 150 local businesses to unite resources and support more than 25 local nonprofits with a goal to break the cycle of poverty in our region.

Rountree is a graduate of the 2019-2020 Leadership Program that is led by our local Chamber of Commerce which serves Johnson City, Jonesborough and Washington County. He is also a previous board member for FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), and an active board member for Rise Up, a local youth-based nonprofit.
